I am in a similar position. I live in a very nice neighborhood w/ good, but crowded public schools. I have 2 kids that go to a private school (pre-k , 5th) and a 2nd grader that attends the public. I like the idea of a smaller classrm. There are only 8-14 kids per class at the private, while at the public there are about 25. The older child likes school. He just completed his 1st yr at the private. The ciriculum was more rigorus than he was used to. I'm proud to say that he rose to the challenge and made all A's. I will keep him there at least another yr. I think it will sharpen his study skills and improve his self confidence. He will also be better prepared when he makes the transition back to public for middle or high school. I also like that chapel is a daily happening. My middle child already has a very hard time at the public academically, I know she would be more stressed if even more was required from her at a private.
