SUBJECT: Help! 3 year old reign of terror
I am desperately seeking advice on how to deal with my 3 year old. He has recently become very angry when he doesnt get his way. Today i wouldnt let him play in the dog food and i calmly put the top back on the dog food bin..then he lost it. He picked up one of the dog's bones and threw it at me. It hit one of the dog bowls and dog food went everywhere. It was hard enough that it could have broken glass or worse! I literally chased him to his room, spanked him twice on his rear and shut& locked his door (we have turned the knob around on the advice of our pediatrician). What followed sounded like a bar-room brawl gone bad. I had intended to open the door after about three minutes or once he calmed down. They happened about the same time. Once i unlocked the door he opened it and came out to hug me and tell me he was sorry......his room was TRASHED! I am so at my wits end with how to handle things like this. They are becoming more frequent. He wont get his way and then he will throw something at me and run to his room and try to throw something on the way...sometimes he even screams "dammit". He always eventually calms down and says he is sorry. But to me that is like fire insurance after the fire! Any advice please...i would really like to get his reign of terror under control
