my 1 year old has the same problem. i took him to a pediatric urologist & pediatric surgeon. he has what you would call a "buried penis" (excess skin that buries the shaft). there is a message board on dr spock about this. although most pediatrics will tell you that it will go away on its own, he'll grow out of it and will go away once his baby fat is gone. WRONG WRONG WRONG there is a lot of information about this on the web. my son is having surgery the end of sept. to fix his buried penis. yes you can leave it alone and have him be miserable when he gets older because he's different or you can fix it now before he gets too much older to realize whats going on. don't talk to your pediatric, go to a urologist. if it really bothers you then get it fixed. i have a 3 yr old son whose always asking where his brothers penis is or he's always trying to push his own penis down when we bathe. if i didn't have an older son, i probably would leave it alone, but i don't want my 1yr old to feel different when he gets older. what they do in surgery is pull the extra skin down and sew it into his scrotum. this will have no affect on him in the future. he'll be able to get erections and be like everyone else.
