Your step-children are your children! Both of you were package deals. When you took your vows, those words meant all of his and yours were bound in matrimony. Start thinking of the children of the former marriages simply as children of another marriage, instead of steps. I despise that word "step" (a pet peeve). Your children, and his, from former marriages are from broken homes and already feel different and self consious. Please don't make them feel worse by not acknowledging them. When someone asks how many children, you both tell them 7 - proudly. If they don't ask who had who, why do you feel you need to tell them. It is like you are drawing a line in the sand and if you say it in ear shot of those children, you are hurting them. If someone does say, my goodness are they all yours, say yes - it is the truth. You don't need to explain your family dynamics to anyone!

As for you and your husband quibbling about, "you didn't include my child!" You both sound ridiculous. If your husband expressed that he does not like it when you do that, then why did you continue to make the distinction, and vice-versa? Are you trying to hurt each other, as well as hurt the children?? Grow up!
