SUBJECT: Waking at night
My 16 month old daughter has all of a sudden started to wake during the night, usually about 2 or 3 hours after going to sleep. She puts herself to sleep when we put her to bed and also when I put her down for her naps. She had been sleeping approximately 11 hours at night. When she wakes up, she WILL NOT let my husband console her. She gets quiet when I enter the room. After she calms down, I put her back in her crib. She immediately starts to cry. I leave the room and try to let her cry. But she cries so hard that she just about makes herself throw up and cries this deep, gutteral cry. It's awful to listen to, so I usually can only let her cry for about 5 minutes. The longer I let her cry, the more upset she gets. She's never put herself back to sleep by crying. And lately, she'll only go back to sleep if i'm in the room. Either sitting in the rocking chair or lying on the floor.
I realize that this isn't the worst thing that can happen and that "this, too, shall pass". But it's making me exhausted.
Anyone with any help or advice? Anyone that just wants to share a similar story, i'll gladly listen. Even if it doesn't help our situation, it's good to know that we aren't the only parents going through this.
Thanks.
Mitzi
