Hi Mary. It sounds like your son is going to a good student/teacher ratio school. It doesn't matter if your son has good fine motor skills or not. If you think his large motor skills need work, I would really push that you want him to have therapy. Fortunately, our special needs school system in our county has been really great about offering everything and anything to help our child. From what I understand other places, you have to really strongly request it.

Speaking of potty training, we are having a HARD time potty training our 6 year old daughter. She will go potty when she is at school (pee-pee), and at home if she has panties on, but going #2 - you can forget it. She understands that #2 goes in the potty, and has even gone in there several times, but 99% of the time she won't. So I was constantly cleaning her panties and going over this again and again. She just refuses to do it in the potty. The only thing that is saving us with regular kindergarten is that she usually only goes #2 at night when she is home. So, I hate to say it, but when she gets home from school I put a Goodnites pull up on her. Her teachers from this past school year said that when she goes #2 in her panties, she will be uncomfortable and not like the feeling and therefore might go to the potty, not liking the feeling in her panties. Not so with her. She can go forever without being bothered by it. Her pediatrician we just saw this past week for her physical said not to push it. As long as it is not an issue at Kindergarten, don't push it. We have tried rewards and all kinds of different things and none have worked. I would suggest talking with his new teacher about it and I'm sure she will work with him. I know, believe me, how frustrating it is. Make sure you talk to his teacher/teachers before he starts about all this. I'm sure since he has been in preschool, it is probably in his records, but I would talk to them. That makes me feel good you mentioned about the potty training, because I was beginning to feel like my child was the only 6 year old with potty problems. My email by the way is Lrepley911@aol.com if you want to email me directly.
