The social stories sound like a great idea; in fact, I guess I was doing them on my own a little without realizing it. We've had trouble potty training him and so I wrote down on a piece of paper all the good things that come of going potty in the toilet, and all the bad things that come of going in your pants. It wasn't really written like a story, but at the time, my theory was "I keep telling him, maybe if I write it down it will make a difference." I definitely think he understands everything now, but it hasn't really changed his attitude on toileting. Like your daughter, he can read and write just fine.

My son didn't receive occupational therapy at his school because when they tested him, they said that because his fine motor skills were ok, it balanced out his large motor skills so he didn't meet the criteria needed to receive it.

I will ask about the social stories at his new school. He's going to a language-saturated kindergarten. I'm not even sure if all the kids there are autistic/aspergers or not, but it's a class with a maximum of 12 students. Also, I will look up social stories on my own to see what I can do.

What are some of the things you're working on with your daughter?

Mary
