I very much enjoyed reading the message left by you Janelle on your thoughts about how important it is to have self-respect thru how a person looks to other people. When you feel comfortable in in what you wear that shows you are dressing for yourself and not how others think you should look.Your decision to make a change is very grown up. It sounded like many different events helped you make you choice. Not only did you find that a true friend noticed the "real you" and then, was able to share her feelings about her image with you but now you feel respect for yourself more. My daughter is the same age as you. She is also starting seventh grade this year. While I was reading your message similar things you said she had gone through last year. And also there were girls who dressed in a way to get attention. I remember she was upset on the last day of school because of a girl she knew who had worn a revieling top. She was encouraging some of the boys to chase and touch her. My daughter was pretty disgusted with her behavior. I was glad that my daughter saw that it is not "nice" to dress and behave that way. When you start to get older you have choices and changes to make,it's part of becoming an adult.I'm glad that you are making good choices for yourself I hope this helps you to feel even better! Have a good school year in seventh gr.
