How sad to feel this way. I know the saying "it's what's on the inside" that counts does not sooth anyone that can't change what's on the outside. Let her know that God gave everyone different gifts to share. If "everyone" was gorgeous than physical beauty would lose it's power. I'd find specific examples that prove it's what radiates from the "inside" that is true beauty. Their are shows on T.V. always have the perfect beauty that is ugly in behavior. Who wants to be so wrapped up in their beauty that they forget what's truly important? Find a T.V. character or a popular girl at your daughters school that is popular because of their positive personalities. People that like themselves, regardless of beauty, are magnets to the world. People naturally want to be around these people. I hope your child has talent to build on that will help her self-esteem. Don't tell your daughter how pretty she is (she won't believe you); tell her how funny, creative, what a good friend, athletic, etc, she is!!! She has to like her soul first and need to give the gifts God gave her. This will give her power. Good luck.
