You shouldn't take an hpt until you've missed your period. They're not accurate otherwise. Wait till you've missed it and then test. If it comes back neg. and still no period wait a few days and retest, or then see you Dr. for a blodd test. It sound like you picked the time to have sex. hopefully yous tarted a few days before you were to ovulate. Sperm can live in the body from 3-5 days so if you had sex a few days prior to ovulating you should've increased your chances. If you're not preg. don't get discouraged. Just relax and enjoy the process of getting preg.:)Good luck.
