Hi, my name is Jessica and I'm 20 yrs old and I'm 5 weeks pregnant. I have had at least 7 kidney stone in the last year. My stones are calcium oxalate which is the most common type of kidney. CAUSE: honestly it's unknown. Some doctors will say that you take in too much calcium and will recommend that you don't drink milk or eat red meat or drink soda. In my case, my urine tests all show a below normal level of calcium. How do you explain that? They can't I've been seeing a specialist and about 2 months ago I underwent laser surgery where they put you under anasthesia and place a stent in your urethra and stick a small fiber optic laser through it and blast the stone. I have at least a couple more although they aren't that big only 1-2mm. When a kidney stone passes it doesn't hurt well at least not for me. The only part that hurts is when it moves down through your uterer (the long tube that connects your kidney to your bladder) when you notice the symptoms of this, be thankful because that means the stone will be passing. You have to drink tons and I mean tons of water. Get used to it because drinking lots of water will reduce your risk of getting another stone by up to 90% so every time I drink water and how much I hate drinking so much I just think of the pain I would get if I didn't. Now as far as pregnancy...I am finally going to pass another stone thats been in there for a while and I was in tons of pain. I called my obgyn and she told me I could take a vicadin if I absolutely needed it....I'm still tring to pass the stone it's only been a couple of days since the pain and still nothing yet. ONE THING we all need to think about during pregnancy is that our babies need a lot of calcium, if they don't get it, it will come from our bones and decrease our bone mass. First thing to go is your teeth. If you are prone to getting kidney stones do not take vitamins!!! Fake vitamin sources put you at a huge risk to getting stones. But what about prenatal pills? I'm not allowed to take them. My doc sd to try and get calcium from vegetables not milk products. And if you get the type of stones I do cut back on the cheese...cheese is a high oxalate food as well as spinach. Best hing I suggest is get as much info as possible go to these websites for some more valuble info... http://www.mgwater.com/rod16.shtml

****these are just a few of the site I found, Oh and I already asked my doctor about taking extra magnesium while pregnant and she said no not while pregnant, but it may be something to think about after your pregnancy. If ever in doubt about anything talk to your doctor, or even better GO TO A UROLOGIST
Thats all for now if any of you have any question please e-mail me at boobear2869@msn.com
