First of all let me say thank you for your reply, it was the only one that helped me!
I too was raised with the strictness you describe, and I, unfortunately, took the wrong path and rebelled against my parents and did a lot of stuff i'm not proud of... and ended up pregnant whe i was 18....I'm so glad you have listened and not gone the way I did.
HOWEVER, I'm concerned about your self confidence issues! Don't you realize that guys are like ten times as paranoid and awkward and unsure about girls as we are about them? Don't be worried about it, act naturally and be friends first, if something else develops, you'll at least know what kind of person they are ahead of time.
One more thing, even if it's a little uncomfortable, talk to your dad, or even your grandma...they have been through it all before and I'm positive they only try to keep you from dating because they love you and want to keep you from getting hurt. I can tell by your response that you have a good head on your shoulders, don't give up hope.
