Basically yes, I took all pressure off. I found myself catching her trying to resist a BM and would try to get her to the toilet quickly by either promising something she REALLY wanted or telling her she wouldn't be able to play with her favorite friend for a week. She still would not go. Like your daughter, it really wouldn't phase her too much. This is when the psychologist came in. She told me to do what I wrote in my first posting. I wasn't sure if it would work because it sounded like we had done most of it already. That day I came home, took all the pressure from her and from me (and my husband) off. I sat down with my daughter and asked her again if she understood why we saw the special doctor about her poop. She said yes. I explained that it was important that we listen to what the doctor tells us to do. I then told her what we would be doing at home. We went to the store and I bought a bright pink poster board. We went to the sticker section and asked her to pick the stickers that were the brightest and the coolest!! She had fun doing this. Next we went to the dollar store where she picked her poop prizes (We did it together and she again started to get a little excited. The poop prizes went in the closet. The biggest challenge was still ahead of me - getting her to sit on the toilet! First she did so with her pants on for 5 minutes. She thought I was kidding when I said she could do this but I said YUP! Within 2 days she was barebottom and sitting and low and behold - out came poo!! I was estatic! I thought this could be the beginning of the end where this problem was concerned. We had lots of false alarms before where she would poop in the toilet and then go back to holding it or doing it in her underwear. The doctor also gave me my own little chart to record every time she sat and what she did when she was there.(If anything at all) I had to record every bowel movement whether it was in her pants or in the toilet. She happily chose her first poop prize and we played with it together and was telling me what she would choose next time. She was 4 years old at the time. Things only got better from there. She is now 7 and sometimes I still catch her trying to hold it in. I just say "Go to the bathroom please." After 3 years there hasn't been any set backs or accidents- not one. Now I need to practice this again with my son. I ask God to give me strength to go through this again because my son, I think, is worse than my daughter was. We find it very hard to be consistant because we are always running off to school or this practice or that lesson. I am taking a break until school ends next week and will try again. If this doesn't work we are going back to the psychologist to see what she recommends. Our lives too revolve around poop! Frustrating to the point where I don't know how much more I can take.
