To boysmom:

Try this. First use a stool softener to help clean him out. 1 teaspoon of Senekot a day works best. You'll be cleaning more underwear but his insides will feel better. Next have him do "practice sits" on the toilet everyday after breakfast and again after dinner for 5-10 minutes.
(He can keep his pants on if he really protests)
If he sits on it with just his pull-up, that's OK.
Make YOURSELF a little chart and record what he does everytime he sits. Also record when he poops in his pull (day & time) Reward him everytime with a small prize everytime he does a practice si(Buy a piece of colored cardboard and decorate it with stickers that he chose himself.) Be consistent and don't stop even if you feel your going nowhere. The goal is to have him sitting on the toilet bare-bottomed.Make sure his sits are pleasant by reading him a book or telling him a funny story off the top of your head.Gently praise when his time is up. Before you start any of this, take him to the store and have him choose his own poop prizes.(Within reason) Bag them and keep them in a closet. SHOULD HE RELEASE ANY POOP IN THE TOILET, go to the bag and have him choose a prize. Punishment and taking away privledges are so temptimg when you are feeling frustrated but it really does make this a longer and more frustrating process. Bite your tough and take a deep breath while your cleaning yet another mess and tell him that poo belongs in the toilet. If you ahve any concerns about giving him the all natural laxative, see your doctor. It is not long term. Follow this faithfully and please let me know if works. Stay strong and tell him everyday that you love him.
