| Hi everyone! I am so glad to know that I am not alone in this problem (not that I wish this on anyone else, but it helps to know I'm not the only one going through this!). My son, also 4, refuses to go poop on the potty. Peeing came late, but he's great at that - won't even pee in the diaper he makes us put on to poop in. For the past year he has been on things like Milk of Magnesia, pear juice, and now almost daily Mineral Oil. This is the only way he is able to get those huge bowel movements out - you can't believe the size of these things. He will hold them for as long as he can and without the oil he just could not get them out (dry, hard, etc). Now at least they come out a little easier, but he will only go in a diaper, not the potty and not a pull-up. We've discussed this with 2 pediatrician's and they wanted to send us to a specialist, but my husband thought that overkill.
We have tried all the rewards, treats, etc. with no success. He is a very bright child who is also very strong willed. He doesn't go to pre-school (mostly because he wasn't potty trained) and if I can't get him going by fall he won't go again. He is an only child and I stay at home with him, so he is pretty isolated. He needs to interacted with other kids and maybe see that they can go poop with no problem. I have M.S. (Multiple Sclerosis) and I really don't need the stress of having a 4 year old who is not fully potty trained. Plus, I want to get him off the Mineral Oil - that can't be good all the time.
Let's hope for a miracle that magically makes our children go on the potty - I really don't want to let his future wife have to train him on this too!!! LOL!! :0) |
