| My son is 2 1/2 months old, and also has trouble with colic and gas. we started out with goodstart - he had good bowel movements, but the gas was unbearable. my doctor suggested soy (caused spitting up and smelled awful) or lactose free. we have been on enfamil lactose free and have seen improvement in the gas, but now he has trouble with constipation. we tried warm baths and using a rectal thermometer to stimulate muscles, but neither helped very much. my doctor suggested giving him a mixture of white grape juice (1oz) and water (1oz) twice daily. He is now having mushy yellow bowel movements once every day or two and seems much happier. i wish his bms were more frequent, but the doctor says it is normal for an infant to go 48 hours without a bowel movement. she also suggested prune juice to help with costipation (same mixture formula as grape juice), but i haven't tried it yet. i continue to give him milicon drops every four hours as needed. he still has bad days, but no more hours of continuous screaming. good luck, i know how hearybreaking it is to have an unhappy baby. let me know how things go and/or if you find any miracle cure! take care. p.s. we also switched to platex nursers. seems to help control gulping of air while feeding. |
