Hi. First off, congratulations to you and your family. I'm 23 and pregnant. My husband and I were planning on waiting a few years to have kids, but things didn't quite work out that way. Anyway, my Mom is a bit older thatn you, but she doesn't want to be called Grandma either. I think she would prefer something like Nana. Are there any foreign languages present in your family? Maybe there's a term for Grandma in there that would feel more comfortable. In my family my great granmother and granfather were known as Nunna Dolly and Nunu Henry. My own Grandparents (maternal) were Nanny & Pepa. Don't forget, a lot of times the child will dictate what you're called by what they can say, that's what happened in my family. Also my mother-in-law is only 43, so I'm sure she feels similarly. Don't know if that's a help, but there's no rule that says you have to go by Grandma. As far as butting in, I found my mom to be a tremendous help thus far in my pregnancy. I call her all the time with questions or concerns or just things I'm nervous and scared about. She's also very creative and has helped me put together an adorable nursery based on things that I've seen and pointed out. I'm sure your thoughts and ideas will be appreciated and if your daughter feels that you're overstepping your bounds hopefully she'd let you now. Good luck. I just know that it's great to have a Mom around even if it's just to lend an ear!
