SUBJECT: Bugs
One of my earliest memories is of my mother killing bugs in our house, and I was very upset about it. I was picking up the bugs and trying to save them. I asked my mother about this, and she told me that when we lived in Maryland, there was a termite swarm in the house, and she was indeed killing the termites. She said we lived there when I was between one and two years old.

Although it sounds funny, I was very confused and upset at the time. Most of my earlier childhood memories seem to be of being confused, upset, frightened, embarrassed or angry.
