If I were you I would get another opinion from a pediatric psychologist. I have had the same problems with my school district. I know my son is hyper at times and it is mainly in school but ADHD is a label that many schools place on kids...my opinion is to put them on medicine rather than having to deal with an active child. Plus I believe schools receive funds for this disorder. And they say if a child has 6 or more of the DSM signs for this disorder then they have ADHD. Anyone can make observations about anything and tailor it to as they see fit. If they put 20 kids in a room together and observed everyone based on-the criteria, I bet they would label 15 of them as ADHD. To me it is only being a kid. My son's school counselor suggested my son had ADHD and that I get another opinion. Well I did, and the school didn't like that. Now they are giving him 1/2 hour of occupational therapy (sensory integration) a week and the only thing they actually came up with was that my son could use some work on his "hand-writing" skills...he's in 1st grade for heaven's sake!! When I took my son for an opinion, the pediatric psyc. felt there was no need for a true ADHD evaluation and that so long as my son is developing socially and academically, then there is nothing to be concerned with. Good luck...
