Here's what worked for me.
My son (now 7) was always in my bed. When he was about 3or 4 I worried he was getting to big for this. I started by telling him if he is going to sleep in my bed, he had to sleep by my feet. After a few weeks of that, I told him he could sleep in my room, on the floor. He only did that a few nights and found his bed was more comfy than my floor. good luck to you
