This brings the firmest punishment in relation to authority, and not for the "crime" itself ...THAT disobedience should be the punishable offense. Obviously, the respect for the parents, by not talking back in rude manner, and the typical body language of rudeness, is part of obedience. Then you can follow up the spanking with grounding, removing privileges, etc. for the actual infraction. A spanking restores their respect for authority...I think you allowing your wife to spank your daughter's bare bottom is wise. I think that you could have the same effect as her father, even without the bare. I think you should also handle some of spanking discipline as well, and not let your wife be the "bad one"... If you HAD to spank her bare bottom, you should have your wife there. You can use a small paddle or wooden spoon to accomplish the task, and not actually touch her bare bottom. This is best for a father, you don't need to be accused of abuse for that. Talk is cheap! DATE: 04/04/02 10:28pm SUBJECT: Is Spanking okay? For "LOVING PARENT" The consistency I see with people that will not spank simply and properly is that the child is always overbearing and nearly out of control. I am astonished that you are reasoning with a 2 year old that it is OK to be angry, and express your feelings... It takes a very mature 2 year old to even say these words, let alone understand them.
