| I've had the pleasure (LOL!) of passing kidney stones three times, and the first time it was 9 days before a scheduled c-section (with my second child). It was painful, but there was really nothing that could be done except give me pain medication and wait for it to pass. It did and I went home only to return 9 days later to have my baby. The only minor problem that it caused was a sore urethra which I noticed when they had to insert a catheter (sp.?!) for surgery. Ouch! But passing the stone or having the stone didn't harm my baby at all. The other two times I wasn't pregnant, so there wasn't an issue with harming a baby. Now I'm 36 weeks pregnant and so far, so good! I haven't had any urinary tract problems at all, thank God! Whenever I feel the slightest tinge of anything kidney or bladder related, I increase my water intake and take cranberry pills for a few days and the symptoms go away. I've been told that cranberry pills are safe to take during pregnancy. Also, one dr. told me that the flow of urine slows down in pregnancy due to the engorgement of capillaries in pregnant women's bodies. He suggested that I make sure to really urinate as forcefully as possible to try to help flush out any "snowballing crystals"--this isn't proven scientifically, but just something that may help. I'm not an expert, but that's all of the information I've gathered over the past ten years or so. Good luck to you. |
