SUBJECT: possible step mom
I am in a relationship with a wonderful, caring boyfriend who is also a wonderful, caring father. My problem? I'm finding myself being resentful of a normal 3 1/2 year old and I feel like a complete idiot for feeling this way! At first, I had a difficult time dealing with his disciplinary tactics. (I know all about the guilt of a divorced dad thing and not getting to spend time with his child, so that isn't it. He has her overnight 3 - spread out - nights each week and dinner one other night, so he spends more time with her than most dad's that are not divorced.) His heart is in the right place, but he is not at all consistent with her. Now, it has moved into me being resentful of her. It's not the attention...I enjoy not having the focus always be on me! But, I do often feel like my life is being run by a 3 1/2 year old. I have a pretty good outwardly (surface) relationship with her, but I'm having difficulty really bonding with her. Has anyone else dealt with these same conflicting feelings?
