My daughter is 8 and in 1st grade for the second time. She had difficulty last year keeping up so they gave her a "growth year". Met yesterday with her teacher, the Principal, learning specialist,her speech therapist, school psychologist, special ed teacher and they said that they are not going to test her because they don't believe she is "learning disabled" becaus she doesn't excel in any area, and if tested and she is not she would not be eligible for any help. But they will offer her additional help through special ed 3-4 x week (in addition to her speech therapy she has been in since pre-school and tutoring over the Summer as she did last year). Where and how could I get her tested? Through a physician? a specialist? I believe she has some problem "connecting the dots" whether that's dylexia or what I don't know.
Any ideas would be welcomed. I've tried to work with her and she is so frustrated that she just "can't do it."
