 | Hello all, I'm new here, and I was wondering what parents think about violence in games. I'd like to start a debate, but before I say anything about my opinion, a poll: What do you think should be done about violent video games? More than one answer is OK...
A) The government should ban them all. These games are ridiculously violent for no apparent reason, are the reason behind youth crime, and basically ought to be illegal. Not only should they be banned, but fines should be enforced on anyone owning one, as in Brazil.
B) Games are probably a major factor in youth violence, and they also desensitize children. Legal action should be taken against the more inapropriate games, and stores need to enforce an 18+ rule on games with violence.
C) It's the parents' responsibility to restrict what their kids see, and with the help of the Electronic Software Ratings Board (ESRB), they can do that easily. The government should let games be.
D) Games are not a cause of violence or desensitization in society. That's far-fetched, and probably just the paranoia of insecure, self-righteous people looking for something to blame. |
