Mary, after your response, my earlier response is apparently insufficient. I had no idea that your husband was actually allowing it to happen and not correcting the behavior himself. I am shocked that an educated woman such as yourself has let this continue in this manner.

If I had not mentioned it before, I am a teacher and part of my job is to spot signs of possible problems in kids. Let me just say that if I knew you and your son personally, I would have already called CPS and the police on your husband. Not only would I feel morally compelled to do so, it would be my legal duty as a teacher. You're a lawyer, so I'm sure you understand.

I strongly believe this is beyond "trying" to get your husband to counselling. I think immediate intervention is necessary and your husband needs to be kept away from your son and all children. You might consider seeking counselling yourself since you've been allowing the situation to continue without strong intervention.
