Thank you for your reply - the main catch here is definitely having the 8 month year old as well factor. Heck, when she was younger with no other baby, she would also scream sometimes for up to 2 hours before she would settle (that really payed off for us after about a year as she did become the perfect 7-7 child with a 2 hour nap...all the way up to the move to the big girl bed). It wouldn't be like screaming is a new concept to her. The nap thing is definitely one that we have cut out (well stopped fighting) in the last two weeks - but the occasional late afternoon quiet time has her falling asleep anyway messing up the whole concept! She would stay up until midnight every night if we gave her the option and I've never known her to fall asleep anywhere except her bed or the car seat. I'd have to say she'd outlast us everytime we tried to let her stay up later.

Closing the door (and having to lock because she would just open it) is really our last resort situation we've been trying a few times and really don't understand since she has ALWAYS slept before with a closed door (maybe insecure, maybe just wanting it open hoping our dog would sleep beside her (new concept for her)). Seems that is the only thing really available to 'take away' when she is out of control/disruptive/non-compliant to at least settling down and playing quietly if she refuses to sleep. I know every child is different, and every situation is different....anyone with other suggestions where the cry it out option doesn't really work as it wakes up baby #2 every time??? I'm almost 90% positive its adjustment to the new home, but really nothing we can do about that.
TIA
dave & alisha
