weird for me too..same thing! my baby is nw 7 weeks old and the back sleeping is a major probem(getting better) as well him sleeping in the car seat etc. on his back, he flails, and then wakes himself up in minutes. he loves sleeping on his belly, and i too do it for naps. the back thing we are getting better at...by force because his carseat is now unsafe in the crib when putting him down to sleep..he gets so mad that he stands in it and is ready to shoot out any day(he is a hellion!)so, we had no choice anymore. in the crib, i sometimes put him on the belly and when he is asleep, turn him over.

gotta tell ya, letting him cry, though, really does work. he gets so worked up and overstimulated, he needs to release it. i go up at 15 minute intervals to see if he needs a burp, tuck in the pacifier and say some calming words..1/2 minute or so. he calms and shortly goes to sleep. it's sooooo hard at first, but when you get to the point that everything you can do for him is done and you know he is tired...try it, and be consistent. they pick up on it in no time and you are not pulling your hair out at every nap/nite session. also, i am doing the dr. weisbluth method("healthy sleep habits, healthy child") and that is to try not to have him up for no more than 2 hours a time (including the feeding AFTER a nap) and i tell you...when he gets the sleep, he is so sweet..when i went by nature etc...he ws miserable, fighting sleep and staying up for 5-6 hour streches..being miserable and no fun to be with. i thought he was too young for it, but not true. he is responding(grantd there is a bit of crying, it has been a LOT) but, that has subsided..and when we don't do it that way, there is more crying and whining than you could imagine. babies need to sleep, and some need to cry to let ut excessive energy.

good luck
