SUBJECT: talk to your kids about eating disorders
I'm thirteen and I've grown up with a lot of the symptoms of eating disorders but never actually getting to the point of having one. Always walking by the mirror and not helping but seeing someone disgustingly huge, and coming home crying because I felt like my friends were half the size of me when really I was the same as them (or skinnier). My mom was anerexic as a teen and that saved me in many ways. Having experience in what I was feeling she knew how to help. Everyday she would encourage me to eat healthy and was always keeping track of how much I ate, making sure it was always enough! She would constantly give me facts of all the negatives of eating disorders so the next time I saw myself as fat, that wouldn't be the place to turn. I'm not totally past this obsession of how thin I am but my mom is really helping me. So if you think your child might have a disorder you should just level with them and sit down and talk about it, it helps....a lot. And if you don't see any difference it's time to get outside help from a doctor! I know I am just a kid and you're thinking how much can she know!? but I really think this is one way to help your child. Thanks.
