SUBJECT: Mom feels guilty about daughter doing well in school
My 7-year-old daughter is the top reader, top math student and doing very well in all the other subjects in school. I am so very proud of her. but what is happening is that most of my friends who have children in school are constantly complaining about thier children's behavior in class, or their lack of skills in reading and math. When they ask me how my daughter is doing, I am afraid to tell them for fear that they will assume that i think she is smarter then thier children. The reason I feel this way is that about a month ago, my friend told me that her daughter had been diagnosed with ADD. when she asked me what to do, I told her that I couldn't help her because I don't have any problems with my daughter. She then accused me of bragging and believing that my daughter is better than hers. Now I just tell my family how well she is doind. Am I wrong in not telling others how well she is doing, even if their children aren't doing as well? Any advice will help out tremendously. I don't want my child to think I am not proud of her.
