IN REPLY TO: Have you ever heard....

I am left handed and I think that regardless of how you write, if you're using the left hand, then you're a "true lefty." There are so many variables growing up left handed that create how we write, like people and teachers forcing us to do things right handed or turning paper a certain way, that there's no telling how we would do it if we had been left alone to write naturally.

I do not write in the "hook" position, yet I find that I sometimes slant the paper left or sometimes right, depending on my mood.

I don't remember any teachers telling me which way to slant my paper, but I do remember an elementary music teacher trying to force me to hold the violin in my left arm and the bow in my right. This was especially difficult because I can't lay my left arm out with my palm face up. In later years I learned that I have what some call "nurse maid's elbow" which is where the two bones in your forearm criss cross over each other and therefore, you can't turn your arm all the way over without turning your shoulder. Does anyone else out there have this? I've been trying to find someone else that has it.

Anyway, as a result, I do almost everything else primarily with my right hand. This is also because that as a child my grandfather, a professional tennis player, forced me to use my right hand while teaching me to play, therefore strengthening it and making it my dominant hand.
