 | I had a little girl in my class last year and she didn't even say "Hello" to me until MARCH!! I had never, ever, experienced anything like that in my entire time teaching. She spoke to the children occasionally, but I had never heard her...she would stop talking the minute I came near or she noticed me watching.
I had told her mother that since it was impossible for me to test her promotion was doubtful. I have no idea what happened but one day she came in smiled and said "hi". I said "Well, XXXX I'm so glad to see you today" then I said, "Would you like to say hello to some of your other teachers?" She nodded and it was almost like a game for her to go around to her gym teacher, library teacher, etc. and see their reactions when she finally spoke. She spoke from that day on!
It may just be a control issue. This little girl was 4 and turned 5 in August. I wish you luck : ) ~Kathy* |
