I just wanted to reply to both of the new mommies with a similar story of my 5 month old daughter. My daughter actually started eating more and sleeping less(she's breastfed) when she turned about 4 months old. She was in a routine of sleeping about 6:00 PM until 11:30 PM. Gradually she started going to sleep later and waking up at the same time. She then wakes every 2-3 hours to nurse. I know this sounds crazy but it seems as if every time her body allows her to sleep longer she devises a new way to fight it. I am was also constantly told when she was first born that she seemed very alert for her age. Just curious...I had an unmedicated birth...did you have the same?? For almost a week she slept from 9:00 PM until 3:00 AM then back to sleep until 7:30 AM or 8:00 AM. Then with everything staying the same she settled back into a waking every 2 hour routine. Who knows??!! I thought as she got a little older and bigger that she would gradually sleep more and eat less but when at 4 months old she was 18 pounds and 24 inches long I realized that's not the case. I am sharing this with my fellow mommies because it sounds like we're all going through sleep deprivation with our new babies. But it also sounds like our babies are exhibiting completey normal behavior and there is such a wide range of normal. Good luck to everybody!! In the middle of the night when my baby and I are awake and I'm completely exhausted I try to remember what every other experienced mother says..."before you know it your baby will be more interested in their new world than you and you'll miss those days when they needed you at all hours of the night and needed to be held all during the day". Also, I took some advice from my friends going through sleep deprivation in medical school, instead of feeling as if you're being deprived of your usual 8 hours expect NO sleep with a new baby then any sleep you do get is a bonus!! I hope this helps!! Good luck again!
