AUTHOR: mommytoMiles
My son who is now 6 months old and sleeping on his stomach also refused at six weeks to sleep on his back. We described what was happening to the doctor which included screaming in his sleep but not actually waking up and waking very soon after being put on his back and loving to sleep on my chest with his head on my shoulder. He also would arch his back while being burped. The doctor recommended Tagamet which is for reflux. When a baby is on his back he experiences this more. He actually started sleeping on his tummy at 3 months because he would not sleep any other way. We were not very comfortable with this either but it was the only way. We also made sure to remove everything from his crib leaving him only with a blanket tucked under his sides and we raised the side of the crib where his head was a bit in order to have his head at a slight incline. This is supposed to help with reflux. Once he was good at holding his head up and pushing up on his arms we felt more comfortable with him laying on his tummy. hope that this helps.
