I was bottle feeding 7oz of breastmilk 4 times a day along with one small jar of baby food with 5oz of breastmilk. I also had been adding a little cereal to the breastmilk since three months old because she would cry after every bottle for more. The specialist said she is in the beginning stages of rumination. Much like a cow she is stimulated by throwing up and swallowing it back. She is starting to make it happen herself by arching her back and moving a lot until she throws up. What he suggested: 5oz bottles with 10teaspoons of cereal fed more frequently, zantac three times a day, alimentum if I have to supplement, and strangely enough after every feeding she has to be kept upright and NOT stimulated (Don't talk to her, let her watch tv, play or do anything that might cause excitement). I've noticed that no matter what we do to keep her calm she is very active and alert and throws up anyway (even up to 2 hours later). She now throws up globs of cereal and has been constipated since then. I was going to go buy Karo syrup based on my ped's recommendation, but I read this message board and will try diluted prune juice instead. I also starting giving an ounce of water every two hours or so with little success (she went once). Now I'm wondering if my breastmilk might be the culprit. I drink a lot of milk. I was thinking about feeding her alimentum only for a few days to see the reaction. Any suggestions, recommendations or experience with ruminating? I'm really worried. | | | |
