Wow that is a bit harsh advice. I am an in home day care provider and had a child that was biting. I spoke with the parents and let them know it is important to understand while this is a stage some children go through it will NOT be tolerated in my day care. When the child bit I said NO NO you hurt him. I then had him kiss the boo boo and say sorry. I felt very bad whenever this child bit because NO child should have to be afraid of another child biting him. I let the parent of the bitten child know exactly what happened and reassured her that I would do my best to keep the other child away from him. Since it is limited space in my home and all the 6 children interact it was not possible to keep them apart at all times. I did have to ask the mother to remove the child that consistently was biting and hitting the other children. While biting is a form of trying to expresst themselves it is still NOT fair for any child to have to wait until this child passes through the stage. I tried working with positive care but I could tell the parents were allowing this child to have control at home and so he expected it at day care to and when he could not have his own way he acted out with biting and hitting. I would agree with the fact that if this day care is not willing or capable of preventing this repeated behavior and is not willing to ask this child be removed then I personally would take my child somewhere else. Being bitten is very painful and causes emotional stress on the child that is getting bitten. He/she can not look forward to going to day care each day with the worry of getting bitten. There are many good day cares. You will find one that will assure you they do NOT tolerate this kind of behavior. I do feel if you approach the director and say you are considering removing your child and other parents as well it will be in the best interest of the day care to have the child that is doing the biting removed, rather than them loose other children.
