 | I have a ten year old son, that has to be the most unorganized child I know. He had problems ever since kindergarden with remembering his homework. I tried everything I could think of to get him to bring his homework home from school. He is a very smart child and has been in advanced classes since second grade. He never has problems in school, everything seems to come very easy to him, except the fact he never could remember to bring home his homework. I bought a see through book bag, I checked his work every day, I even e-mailed his teacher on a weekly basis. It seemed nothing I did, would fix this memory problem with him. I finally found something that would work with him. I started taking things away from him. I started with hockey. Everytime he forgot to bring his homework home, he would have to miss a game. Trust me when I say this hurt me just as much as it did him. Hockey is a very expensive sport. I also tried something a little different, if he would forget his school work I would make up worksheets for him to do at home. I made it to where my homework would be much harder than the schools homework. I would not let him go outside or watch TV until the homework I gave him was complete. After a couple weeks of my homework and a few missed hockey games, he finally started coming around. I think he figured out he would much rather spend thirty minutes a day doing his school work than an hour or so doing mine. I no longer have that problem with him, he's bringing home his school work now and his grades show it. |
