SUBJECT: 4 1/2 year old wont sleep in her own bed
Hello-It is really all my fault. I am a single mom who started a family bed with my infant over four years ago. Now that she is getting older and going to be in kindergarten I wanted to break her of sleeping with me and get her to move to her own big girl bed. She has one. She picked out her own Clifford The big Red Dog sheets and comforter. The room is all decorated the way she wanted it. But, she wont sleep in there. Last week I put her to bed alone and left the room. She cried and cried. I got so much heat from my family about it. My mom calling me a "hateful mother" for letting her cry that way. I dont know what to do. The doctor said that it would take 2 weeks you just have to close the door, let them know you are near by and when she gets up you take her back and let her know it is okay and then put her back in bed. Easy said, but not easy done! I am trying to promote independence in my daughter. She is almost 5. I figured that in time she would let me know when she was ready to move to her new bed. So far, no luck. Does this make me a bad mom because I let her sleep with me for all these years and now I feel like I am kicking her out? Any advice would be wonderful. Thanks.
