Don't bother with one of those BabyBeat monitors you can buy at Target or Motherhood, you wont hear the heartbeat until your third trimester. The box says half way through your 2nd, but here i am at 25 weeks and i still can't hear it with that thing.

But so you know, usualy your doctor will first use a doppler around 10-12 weeks! I think you are confusing a doppler with an ultrasound! You can see the heartbeat with an ultrasound but it's the doppler that lets you hear it!

Some practices will let you have an ultrasound around 10 weeks but others wait until you are further along at about 17-22 weeks!

But the doppler should start being used like i said around 10-12 weeks and it will be used at every doctors visit after that, it's not specificaly scheduled! A doopler is a little hand held machine with a mini wand (like the ones used in ultrasounds), they put some gel on your belly and use the wand to find the heartbeat. The doppler machine also determines what your babyes heartrate is. If they don't tell you, ask!
