SUBJECT: nine month old won't drink formula
Help... My son won't drink formula anymore. He has been on Good Start since he was 3 months old. He has never been a very good drinker - averaging only about 20 ounces a day. We have battled with reflux and horrible constipation. The reflux has resolved and his doctor has started him on medication to ease the constipation. I took him to the doctor last week because his formula drinking was hovering around the 10 ounce mark for a few days. He does eat soilds; very runny oatmeal for breakfast, stage two fruit for lunch, and stage two veggies for dinner. This is the menu his doctor has suggested and he does pretty well with the solids. Anyway back to the doctor's appointment - when my son was born he was in the 70th percentile for weight and slowly over his nine months he has dropped to the 18th...
My doctor and I are very concerned. The doctor has given my son 1 month to gain weight or he is going to order tests to see if there is a problem that we are missing...
Yesterday my son refused to drink formula at all. I let him go until 3:00 pm then I got desperate. I did the unthinkable - I made my husband go get some whole milk. I know it sounds terrible but he loves it! This is his second day and he had 30 ounces - I know to some of you this isn't much but it is outstanding for him! I did call his doctor this morning and he was very supportive of the change. He said every once and a while he runs into a baby who doesn't tolerate formula -very rare but it does happen...
Has anyone else out there encountered any of these problems??? I spend so much time worrying that I feel like I am missing out on the fun stuff??? I know a lot of you out there are probably shocked at the decision to switch my son to milk but please only supportive responses... I already spend a lot of time beating myself up about how to make things better for my son that I don't need anyone else's negativity... I never knew it would be so hard to be a mom - but I wouldn't change a thing!!!
Thanks
