SUBJECT: My 17 year old in danger? Please help.
I have a 17 year old named Sarah. We live in Paris, moved here five years ago from Montreal. Sarah will be returning to Montreal over the summer to see some of her old friends.
Yesterday, I snooped through some of her papers and I found an email that had been sent to her from a stranger in Montreal, and plans to meet. I had a talk with her about it and she confessed that she's been having an online friendship with this man who supposably 40 - 50 years old. She agreed to meet this man when she goes over there.
I don't know what to do. Why is this man talking to my daughter? Why is she talking to him?
I don't want to cancel her travel arrangements but I don't feel comfortable letting her go if I suspect she's going to be meeting up with a strange man she met over the internet.
I'm thinking I may go with her. I've tried asking her what she sess in the friendship with this man but she replies that 'it's hard to explain' she just enjoys talking to him.
She's an A student and has a lot of friends. Do any of you have any suggestions as to what these two people (this strange man and my daughter) see in talking to each other?
Should I try to make her stop? Please answer me. Thank you.
