Draw a picture of a road that divides in two with a happy face on one, and a sad face on the other. Tell him that everyday when he plays with his friends he makes choices about which road to take. People who take the sad road have no friends, and play alone, and don't get invited to bday parties, etc. Put the picture on the fridge. Maybe put a happy face stamp on his hand. Every morning ask him which road he will chose today. At the end of the day, praise him for choosing the happy road. If he chose the sad road, say, well, too bad for you, soon you will be playing all alone. Then talk about the feelings of the person that he hit, and tell him how he should feel when he hurts someone. I don't think kids know how to feel necessarily, you have to teach them. Then say, maybe you will choose the happy road tomorrow. Tell him that the "Jone's" or whatever you last name is do not hit (so no spanking). Tell him that nice people do not hit or push others. This worked for me. It took 3 months.
