SUBJECT: 6 month old nap issues
My 6 month old takes 30-45 minute naps, which has been so frustrating because I know she is tired because of her rubbing eyes, pulling on her ears, crankiness, etc.. My baby girl sleeps better at night now (from 5:30pm or 6pm until about 7am, sometimes with one feeding around 2am), however will either fight daytime naps or take only 2-3 mini power naps which do not appear to be restorative for her. When I get her out of her crib after a nap, she is already pulling on her ears again. She is so tired by late afternoon that I have to put her to bed so early now. I do believe her nap issue has to do with her coming out of the active stage of sleep and not being able to transition to the restful sleep on her own. So far, I have tried the following: leaving her in her crib upon awakening for up to an hour and a half, white noise machine, music, breastfeeding, rocking, singing, the car seat, swing, stroller, and probably something else I have forgotten! I also put her down for her first nap within an hour or two of her waking in the morning which helps a little. This is the only nap that she won't usually fight. What's weird is that she seems so sleepy when she gets up in the morning, even after sleeping all night. I do not understand this either.. When she wakes from her short naps, she will play with her feet or hands for up to an hour and a half! This is when I do not know what to do. Pick her up, or leave her? I tried leaving her in her crib to see if she would go back to sleep, and she will just play quietly until she gets tired again, (sometimes after an hour or so) and by that time it's time for a feeding, or she stays up so long playing on her own in the crib that she becomes overtired and cannot go back to sleep at all. UGH! Any suggestions? Sorry for the long winded message. I wanted to include as much info as possible. Thank you so much for any help!
