I think one thing you have to keep in mind is that we all live in very different communities. I'm guessing by the song reference that you're from canada? I live in New York City, and am having my doubts about sending my 4 year old to public school. I've told my friends (who don't have kids yet) that things have changed since we went to school (I'm 30 yrs old). You are absolutely right about the whole college and future thing- just because I may send her to private school doesn't mean she'll get into Harvard. I know plenty of Parochial School kids who ended up worse than me. I think it also depends on your child. I was an average kid, kind of smart- no genius- and I did fine. But that was then.
