 | I can relate. My son is in the 4th grade, will be 10 on June 24th. I have been all through the process of private school, changing to public school during 2nd semester of 2nd grade due to needing assistance with his reading and attention problems. My son has an above average IQ, but struggles with following directions, reading, day dreaming, figiting, etc. After 2nd grade, I demanded that the school put him through special ed testing with ARD - this is Coop that comes to the school to test and analize his abilities - he did not qualify for special ed training, but did get "Modified Assignments" I then took him to the Pediatrician to go through the ADD (Focus) questionaire process - he was diagnosed with "borderline" ADD - he did well when on the stimulent medication, but lost too much weight, now on a non-stimulent, still strugling - I took him to Sylvan for an assessment and tutoring, this is where we are at this time. Tutoring is very expensive and the public schools (Texas) are required to provide testing and additional help for LD's - there is also a code that would require the school to pay for special training under certain cercumstances - I would look at the state education website for that info. I can really relate with you - my exhusband thinks that our son is lazy and not applying himself and I believe there is a REASON for this and am doing all I can to resolve it, it has controlled my life, I am self-employed and my business is suffering, I do not work past 3:00 due to homework, etc. with my son. |
