Hi,
I recommend reading everything you can on baby sleep and finding what works for you. I did this when my son was five months old and waking up to 20 times a night (we recorded it). We worked with Elizabeth Pantley's "No Cry Sleep Solution" to "wean" our son off needing us to get to sleep, then let him cry it out (which took very little time, because he was closer to going to sleep on his own).

Persist. We have friends who were always "too tired" to do anything about their two sleeping on their own. The kids are now 12 and 10 and STILL wake their parents at night. Imagine how much more tired you'll be by then. It's not easy, but worth the effort. Know your own limits before you try a new plan; if you think you can't let yours cry it out, don't start that method (you'll just teach them that they have to cry a long time, but you'll eventually pick them up.)

Check your local library for Elizabeth Pantley's book, and also check out Ferber's sleep book (it's useful to have the whole story before trying a sleeping plan).
