SUBJECT: The beginning of handedness
Since I am a lefty, I am wondering when I will know for sure whether either on of my daughters will be a lefty, since their father is right-handed. My oldest daughter seemed to use her left to eat when she was younger, but now she seems to have chosen the right. She is three and a half. Yet, when she draws or colors, I have to show her how to hold her pencil or crayon correctly, even though she has it in the right hand. She just holds it in a fist. My mom says that's normal, so we will see I guess. My other daughter is only 19 months and doesn't show any preference so far. I was just wondering when it it a for sure thing. I don't know if I should buy a lot of left handed things, such as scissors, to see which one they are more comfortable with or give it more time. I don't want to cause them frustration by just having the wrong things around for them to use. Although I am a lefty, I have learned to adapt to the right handed world in most things. I don't want them to have to learn to "adapt".
