 | First let me say that I am pro-breastfeeding. I was only able to nurse my first child for 6 weeks, and my last for 5 weeks. This was due to neither of them gaining weight. I ate properly, with healthy food and the additional calories needed, but unfortunately my body just did not produce what my children needed. This was especially heartbreaking with my now 3 and a half month old.
I was very offended by your comments that bottle fed babies are sick all the time and breastfed babies are not. My son who is now 12 was only breastfed for 6 weeks as I stated and he has only been sick once in his life, when he was 5 years old. He had the flu. Never an ear infection, nothing... I think this had much more to do with not being in daycare than being bottle or breast fed. Working mom's that are forced to put their children in daycare also often must make the choice to bottle feed, where as stay at home mom's seem to have the luxury of being able to nurse.
My son is a very stable, well adjusted, happy child who also happens to be an honor roll and G.A.T.E student. (Gifted program) Just because I was unable to breastfeed did not mean I did not bond with my child.
It is a personal decision when to stop nursing. More power to all of you mom's for doing what you are comfortable with instead of following "society's norm". |
