SUBJECT: Our typical night (mare) - a little long - sorry
Hi all,

After much agony, I am happy to find a place where so many people are going through the same thing as our family.

Hubby and I made a resolution this year that our babies (ages 16 mos. and 2 1/2 yrs.) now have to sleep in their own beds.

Well, we are 2 weeks into it and it is still a nightmare. They are not allowed in our bed until he leaves for work around 6 am. However, it is a nightmare.

We have two older children in school, so crying it out is not always an option.

However, we have tried all the others: putting them to bed awake, comfort object, nightlight, letting them exhaust themselves, praise, punishment, no naps, longer naps....you name it, it seems we have tried it.

The couple times we have tried the crying out, the 15 month has worked herself into hysterics - literal screaming and screeching for hours. By then she is ready shaking terrified and ready to puke. I guess I am a wuss. I didn't pick her up, but it took forever for her to go to sleep.

Anyway - here is our typical night and I am wondering if anyone else goes through this.

The two share a room. So, hubby and I give them baths, get snacks, read stories, maybe play a game and then it is lights out. Baby girl sleeps in crib and son in toddler bed. Both willingly go to sleep. One of us usually sits in room - usually me - until they sleep. This is anywhere between 8 and 10 (we are still trying to find perfect time).

Then little girl wakes up about 11:30 or 12. Go in, pat her, she goes back to sleep. Then son gets up about 1. Take him to bathroom or pat him and he goes to sleep. Little girl wakes up about 1:30 - same routine. Little girl wakes up about 2:30 - same routine. Son wakes up about 3 - 3:30 and same routine. Little girl wakes up again about 4 or 4:30. Son wakes up about 5. Both wake up again about 6:00 or 6:30 and then come in our bed until about 8. We do use sippy sups for the - but only tap water - on advice of ped.

Whew - we are exhausted. Still toughing it out - but oooh a night of uninterrupted sleep sounds good!

Any ideas? Does anyone else go through this?
