 | Mold is dangerous to her unborn baby. My home was flooded very bad last summer while I was 7 months pregnant. We had a foot of water through the whole house. We were able to remove all of our carpets immediately, but mold still started throughout our walls within days. I became very ill from the mold. My OB & perinatalist both told me I absolutely could not go back in to my home until all of the mold was gone. We had to cut out all of our walls about 2 feet high, remove the bottom 2 feet of insulation, and spray a bleach solution (recommended by the health department) in all open walls. The walls had to be aired out for about a week to completely dry. Once that was complete a contractor re-insulated and put new sheet rock and base boards in for us. I was out of the house about 2 weeks. This is a much better solution than selling the home. In most states you have to disclose if you are aware of any defects in your home, such as mold, termites, leaks, etc. before you can even sell. Mold is to be taken seriously, especially while pregnant. Urge your friend to discuss this with her doctor. She does not need to spend huge money on mold services, contact the health department, they can let you know how to treat it yourself, though it does require cutting out your sheetrock. Most contractors have a moisture test, if there is moisture, there is likely to be mold. That can be tested prior to cutting any walls. Hope this helps. |
